Found: Ultimate One-Word Problem Novel?
Please refresh your memory of The Single-Word Theory of Awesomely Depressing YA Novels: Most realistic (ie, not fantasy) YA novels with single-word titles are awesomely depressing. Moreover, they are frequently about hot-button social issues and are not uncommonly in verse.
Butter
: Suicide by snacking is sad.
Actual blurb: A lonely obese boy everyone calls "Butter" is about to make history. He is going to eat himself to death-live on the Internet-and everyone is invited to watch.
I am not sure how that would even work. What is the lethal dosage of Doritos?
I like the cover. It makes a butter dish look dystopian and ominous. It's a perfect visual image of America's unhealthy and maddening messages about food, weight, health, beauty, self-worth, and fitting in: eat that butter, and next thing you know, you'll be FAT and committing suicide live on the internet!
Note: I have not read the book, which is forthcoming. The book might be good! I'm just amused by the premise, cover, and title. I imagine a gravelly, menacing male voice saying, "Butter," like a mobster might say, "Get in the car."
