damn! i hate updating this thing during the summer. but yet i do it anyways.
wellllll...thursday we found out that there was a hurricane coming on friday. oh baby! so we all went out and put hurricane shutters on my house, as well as every one of my neighbors houses. 5 houses, not including ours. now these shutters arn't normal shutters. they are pieces of metal that overlap each other and bolt onto the windows on the outside of the house. they're pretty heavy too. well that was fun! when they are completely on, theres no way to see outside. you have to open the front door. then we all got together and had a pre-hurricane party.
well friday, we took showers, gathered up all of our stuff, and went over to my neighbor Gail and Pat's house. there were 14 people, 3 dogs, and 2 cats in her house. along with furniture that was on her back porch, a grill and A LOT of food. the hurricane was supposed to be coming right toward us, but missed us by a few miles. we lost power at 3 in the after noon (we had been there since 9am) we finally all went outside at around 7pm. all the kids got together and went outside to play in the water. we skimboarded across the enormous puddles on the golf coarse, and then decided to play puddle football. 3 on 3, guys vs. girls. we were having fun, until my neighbor tyler decided to play real football, and tackled my sister, thus breaking her collar bone. we grilled a lot of the meat that was slowly going bad, due to lack of power, ate at 10pm and then all went home. (that was the during-hurricane party!)
saturday we woke up, still no power. my mom, my neighbor judy and i all went to naples (one of the only places with power) to get coffee and breakfast for our street. we came home, took down all the shutters, only to find that a storm named Earl was going to hit us next weekend. SWEET! power finally came back on, at around 5pm. we took showers for the first time in 2 days. which felt awesome, since we were all pretty skanky from the lack of AC. then we all got toegther at Judy and Al's house for dinner. then we all came home and went to bed. (that was the post-hurricane party)
so in the end, we surrived the worst hurricane to ever sweep across the west coast of florida (in the last 50 years), with the only injury being alex's broken collar bone, due to a game of football. wonder what Earl is gonna do to us!
THE END!!
Loving you always-
Rachel Lee
