Re-reading an O. Henry story when you remember the ending is often disappointing. But it's worse when it's an ending that makes you wince: and I've just read the one where the woman ruins a plan that a draftsman has been working on for three months. And knowing the whole time that that was going to happen entirely redirected my interest - she's supposed to be the main character. But I hated her, even though she didn't know.
Though I'm starting to wonder about how a plan could really take three months to draw. It would have to be a really really detailed one...
