I can't believe how long it's been since I logged in here - Doc and I have just been so busy with different things. I really need to focus now, though, and make a few comments at least...
Last Thursday Doc and I went to see Van Helsing, and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, I must say. Afterwards we had a very interesting discussion about it. People don't understand Doc the way that I do - they would be surprised at what a deep thinker he is - no one gives him credit for it... but I certainly do appreciate him..... smiles gently at Doc, who sits beside her, watching cartoons
I believe that vampires as a race may certainly exist among us - it’s not like they would advertise their presence, would they? The more interesting question is how they exist - and how they continue their existence. There are a couple of schools of thought on this - and one of the more interesting theories has to do with the idea of parasitism, that the vampire releases a host into the blood stream of the victim which changes the blood cells into that of the vampire - a process which apparently does not occur immediately, but only after a certain amount of blood has been drained from the victim. Perhaps a fresh infusion of this parasite is necessary, and a casual sucking of ones neck by a vampire is therefore not fatal? Good to know when you’re out on a date with someone you don’t know very well, and they offer to suck your neck....
Is the parasite introduced then through the double pinpricks which are the vampire’s trademark, perhaps through the saliva? But consider also the vampire’s baptism - as best exemplified in Coppola’s version of the film - wherein Dracula uses his thumbnail to slit a vein in his chest, and has Mina drink from it..............she is in the process of becoming a vampire when his death reverses the process and she becomes “clean” again. A totally erotic scene, by the way, for those who haven’t seen it, and kudos to both Winona and Gary for it! And it reinforces the theory that the parasite needs to be renewed, for with the original vampire’s death, things revert to the way they were before.......
The vampire, being trapped in a state of existence between life and death, must rely on the circulation of blood to keep up this pseudolife, and since his body does not replicate blood cells any more, therefore he relies on the blood of others. Obviously, too, vampires would not wish to create too many more of themselves, as this would eventually become a major drain on the existing blood supply - only so much to go around - and hence in their best interest to maintain a low profile. Just think about it.
Is vampirism inheritable? Interesting thought - and one which would imply some tampering of the genetic code. Would be interesting to find vampires willing to participate in such a study, but how does one go about that? Advertise in Bloodsuckers Weekly?
Well, those are just a few of my thoughts on the subject as well as this - there is a thin line between good and evil - and who is to say which side of the line anyone may be? It’s all a matter of perspective, I think.
She reaches out, ruffling Doc's spikey hair, smiling at the cute expression on his face, before logging off
