There have been times here at SIM USA where there hasn't seemed to be much going on. Sure, us down in the Media Department have had the MOB Project to work on since before I got here. But I'm not working on that every single day of the week. But wouldn't you know it, just two weeks before all those wonderful missionaries were supposed to come to SIMCO, the Media Department had a few visitors . . .
Many missionaries use the summer season to come home for a time of visiting family, updating support churches, and raising support. It seems like every week there is somebody coming through, and many of these people come down to the Media Department to have some things made for their support raising. The two visitors who came during these past two weeks both wanted videos done. One was for a family ministering in a special location (sorry, I can't elaborate!), and another was for a lady just returning from Senegal. Andy gave me the job of working on these videos for two reasons: one, so I can get more editing practice in Final Cut Express, and two, so he can get more work done on the MOB video.
*grins* So for the past two weeks, I've been trying to get these videos done before I had to start filming the new SIMCO candidates. By the grace of God, I think I've nearly got them done. The first one is finished and ready to head out the door on Monday. The one for the lady from Senegal needs a little bit more final tweaking before it will be finished, but it will be soon.
But if that wasn't enough, the Thursday before everybody was supposed to arrive for SIMCO, Terrill Nelson and I were talking about missionaries, videos, youtube and simple video equipment. I told Terrill that in my dream world, every missionary not only blogs, but also knows how to post short videos about where they live. At that, Terrill's eyes lit up. I knew he was interested in what I was saying, so I continued, "I mean, you can make good videos with cheap, dinky cameras and still tell good stories."
Terrill looked at me and said, "Do you think you could use the little Aiptek camera we've got here and put something together to illustrate that point for our new candidates?"
And me being me, I said yes, not even thinking about the videos I was already working on, not to mention the prep work I was doing to get ready for SIMCO. Rachel, you need to remember to bite your tongue on occasion! But I didn't this time around. The project took me a little bit longer to complete than I expected. But this is the video I created for this ad hoc project: To view, click here
http://blip.tv/file/1067362/ This video is about the Tuesday night Bible Study I've been attending at Steele Creek Church of Charlotte. I shot this with that dinky little Aiptek camera and editing in iMovie '08. If I can do it, then so can you!
