Un-Expected Relationships

What a busy week last week!  Wow.  I tried to take some time to blog about it, but I kept running out of time in the evenings.  But for a busy week, it's been great!

So far, I have to say that my most favorite thing about my job is the people I get to meet.  There are always missionaries coming through the USA office.  Many of them are returning from the field, and as they come home, they've got a couple of media details they'd like to take care of.  Monday through Wednesday I helped one family with one such detail.  The Morris family has been serving as SIM missionaries in France.  They wanted a Power Point presentation to use to share with churches the story of their ministry over the last few years.  Installing Microsoft Office on their computer in France proved to be cost prohibitive, so they asked the Media department to help design their Power Point.  Andy gave me the job so I could better find out what the new iMac can do, and to test my own creativity.  It was amazing!

The first thing was just getting to know Richard Morris.  He and I worked together to create the Power Point, and that meant getting to view beautiful pictures of Bracieux, France and listening to his stories from the field.  I got to hear and see so many things that didn't make it into the presentation.  Then we began the process of assembling slides and figuring out which pictures to use, which stories to share, and most importantly, how to arrange all the slides into a flowing storyline that communicated the story of Richard and his family's ministry in France.

By Wednesday, it was complete, save for a few minor tweaks.  Richard and his wife Valérie were so happy with the results!  I think Andy was impressed not only by how good everything looked and worked on the iMac, but also with my ability with Power Point.  Personally, I was satisfied with giving Richard and his family a powerful tool that would help them as they visited their supporting churches here in America.  I had a lot of fun helping Richard create that Power Point.  It was great to encourage him on how to be a better storyteller.

The Morrises were very appreciative from the help they received from the whole Media Department, Andy with storytelling help, Tyler with photo touch-up help, and me with the Power Point help, that they bought us a fruit tart and shared it with us in down in the department!  What a special time getting to "hang-out" with the Morrises as a family before they left the following morning.

When I applied for the videography work back last March, I really didn't know exactly what I'd be doing.  Even as I arrived here Memorial Day weekend only a few short weeks ago, I still didn't get the whole gist of it.  The thing I least expected was the wonderful new friendships that I'd be establishing with missionaries from all over the world.  That is amazingly incredible.  It is encouraging for me as a missionary, to talk with them and learn from them.  I only hope and pray that I'm as encouraging for them too.
