FRAUD!!! EXTORTION!!!!

I hate the library.

I went to the library to see about this 95 dollar fine that they gave me even though I returned all of my books. They told me to go to the cashier's office-- so I went there-- then they told me to go back to the library-- and then the library told me that they assessed a 95 dollar fine because of damage to a book!!! I asked to see the book and it had coffee stains all over it-- which it HAD when I checked it out! I told the lady that I didn't spill coffee or any dark colored beverage on it because I don't DRINK coffee, or tea or coke or anything because the caffeine hurts my head.

She was like "Well, it came in like this and if it was like this before they would have charged the person before you." I said that I knew it was stained when I got it-- but that I did NOT stain it. She said that they ALWAYS check every book and that I had to have stained it- and that maybe it happened in my backpack and I didn't notice. I told her that it couldn't have been stained in my backpack because I don't drink those beverages and would therefore not have them in my backpack. I asked what I should do in the future because I didn't want to have to pay for any books that I didn't damage. She said that you can request to have damage stickers put on them when you check them out-- I wanted to be like "Why would you have THAT system if you ALWAYS check them before you put them on the shelves"-- but I didn't.

Anyway- she says I have to pay 95 dollars or buy a replacement for the library!!!! What extortion!!!! I asked if there was an appeals process and she said "yes-- but it won't help with this book." OMG-- half of the books in the LIBRARY have water damage (from the flood) I don't see how this is automatically my fault! It was so frustrating to have her sit there and not believe me ANNND charge me money for a stupid book that wasn't even helpful! I don't know what to do. I guess I can either call the appeals lady and have HER call me a liar-- or I can order the stupid book online and then wait for weeks and weeks for it to get here while a hold is still on my registration! Good thing I am student teaching and that class can't fill up. What a jerk! I am never checking out a book from the CSU library again. How dare they take advantage of a poor college student who has better things to do than pay for books they didn't damage!
