Dewey's Readthon - Hour 24 - Mini-Challenge

Apr 11, 2010 20:38

The final hour...

Still working on the audiobook of The Vampire Diaries. Read nothing more than blog posts for the past hour though. Might try some fanfiction for the final hour.

The End of Event Meme

1. Which hour was most daunting for you?

Probably the 5am-6am hour (Hour 9?) As I am normally asleep by then, and of course, I fell asleep. Until 10am. Though I remember waking up once an hour at least until 8am.  It was a test of willpower and I failed, but I shall try harder next year!

2. Could you list a few high-interest books that you think could keep a Reader engaged for next year?

OUT by Natsuo Kirino - one of my favourite crime novels, about 4 middle-aged Japanese women who lead dull lives working in a ready-meal factory who become entangled in the murder and dismemberment of a man, and attempt to avoid the reprecussions.

Percy Jackson Series by Rick Riordan - it isn't as good as Harry Potter, in my opinion, but Greek Mythology is awesome, and I didn;t hate Percy Jackson as a main character wheras with Harry Potter, I can't stand the main character!

Any of Ryu Murakami's books - he is often neglected in favour of the more popular Haruki Murakami, but I love Ryu's dark crime novels Some of them are more like novellas and would be ideal for the readathon.

Snakes and Earrings by Hitomi Kanehara - novella about a girl who gets mixed up with some shady guys, and the addiction of body piercing and S and M. This book won the author and award. I couldn't put it down when I read it, so luckily it is quite short. I also enjoyed Autofiction by the same author, though Snakes and Earrings is much, much better.

3. Do you have any suggestions for how to improve the Read-a-thon next year?

I loved it just as it is. If I think of anything though, I will definately suggest it.

4. What do you think worked really well in this year’s Read-a-thon?

All the mini-challenges and the hourly updates. It was so efficient.

5. How many books did you read?

2 physical books, 1 full audiobook, a few chapters of manga, half a book of fairytales...

6. What were the names of the books you read?

Sex and the City by Candace Busnell
Gems of Japanized English
Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief by Rick Riorden
Axis Powers Hetalia manga
Pokemon Getto Da Ze manga
Bakuman manga
The Vampire Diaries - The Awakening by L.J Smith
Japanese Fairy Tales

7. Which book did you enjoy most?

The Gems of Japanized English was very funny :) I loved the chapter of Bakuman
I read and the 2 chapters of Pokemon Getto Da Ze.

8. Which did you enjoy least?

The Vampire Diaries. Better than Twilight, but still bad Vampire romance.

9. If you were a Cheerleader, do you have any advice for next year’s Cheerleaders?

I wasn't a Cheerleader, but I want to thank the cheerleaders who supported me. Thank you so very much!

10. How likely are you to participate in the Read-a-thon again? What role would you be likely to take next time?
I'm going to participate again next time as a reader again. It was so much fun and when I get back home to the UK I will have a  much better selection of books to read :D
