May Reading Summary

Jun 12, 2011 23:07

I didn't actually get much reading done in May. This was mainly due to my university assignments and exams, so most of the month was spent studying. Still, I read a few gems of the young adult fiction market and started a pre-teen series which I found myself facinated and yet irriated by.

01. Dracula (Shmoop Study Guide)
02. Nightlight - A Parody - The Harvard Lampoon Inc
03. Dead Reckoning (Sookie Stackhouse 11) - Charlaine Harris
04. Paranormalcy - Kiersten White
05. The Forest of Hands and Teeth - Carrie Ryan
06. Clash - Colin Mulhern
07. Death's Excellent Vacation
08. Athena the Brain (Goddess Girls 01) - Joan Holub and Suzanne Williams
09. Persephony the Phony (Goddess Girls 02) - Joan Holub and Suzanne Williams
10. The Meaning of Tingo: Extraordinary Words from Arnound the World - Adam Jacob de Boinel

Only 10 books this month - less than my usual monthly target of 12, but still quite a lot.
What stood out for me this month was Clash and The Forest of Hands and Teeth. They made me think for so long after reading them and stayed with me for ages afterwards. Clash especially, as it is a young adult book aimed at boys (something I don't tend to read much of, to be honest) and is set in my local area - written by a local man. I really enjoyed Paranormalcy too, as the heroine was a lot stronger than many young adult fiction heroines post-Twilight.
I also read the latest Sookie Stackhouse novel, but it really wasn't as brilliant as I was expecting it to be. Even so, I'll still keep reading the series - i care too much about what happens to Sookie, Eric, Pam and Bill. Well, maybe not Bill so much...

Anyways, 5 months in and I've read a total of 66 books. Should my new target be 100, or 150, seeing as I have totally smashed my target of 50 in less than half the year? See how it goes, and if I hot 100, then I'll see about moving it up higher. What I should really do is try and complete more of the BBC Big Read Top 100!
