March Reading Summary

Apr 01, 2011 15:13

Ah March. You have been an awful month this year, full of far too much work and not enough fun.
That, plus the fact that I've been at work more this month than in the previous 2 months of the year, and I was layed low by a stomach bug just before my birthday, means I have really, really disliked what is normally my favourite month of the year. Oh well.

Not much free-time for reading this month. I did get most of my goals done. The essential reading for university has been done.
The plan was to read:
- A Series of Unfortunate Events #12 - The Penultimate Peril
- A Series of Unfortunate Events #13 - The End
- The Private Memoirs and Confessions of a Justified Sinner - By James Hogg
- The Strange Case of Dr Jeckyll and Mr Hyde - By R.L Stevenson
- Dracula by Bram Stoker
- Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse, Breaking Dawn, The Second Short Life of Bree Tanner, Midnight Sun - By Stephenie Meyer
- The Amber Spyglass by Phillip Pullman

Those which are crossed off have indeed been read by me this month. So out of my 12 book goals, I read 9 in total.
I also managed to sneek in some unplanned reading.
 I read:
- Remember, Remember (The Fifth of November) - The History of Britain in Bite-Sized Chunks by Judy Parkinson
- He's a Stud, She's a Slut, and 49 Other Double Standards Every Woman Should Know by Jessica Valenti
- Just So Stories by Rudyard Kipling

I've mostly been working my way through various books on feminism for my essay. Due to my illness I was able to get an extention from 31st March deadline to a 4th April deadline. So I still have a bit of work to do on that. Then and only then might I breath a little and relax by reading some books for fun. Though reading Dracula is a top priority for my Gothic Novel module.
I got half way through the QI Book of General Ignorance (The Noticeably Stouter edition) but university reading took over. I also read several book samples but have been too stingy to pay for the full books. (£15 on a book about Twilight is not going to happen with me. Ever.)
So, my list of books read in total is:
01·     A Series of Unfortunate Events #12 - The Penultimate Peril - Lemony Snicket
02-    A Series of Unfortunate Events #13 - The End - Lemony Snicket
03·    The Private Memoirs and Confessions of a Justified Sinner - James Hogg [main text on the Gothic Novel Module] [will review]
04·    The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde - R.L Stevenson [main text on the Gothic Novel Module] [will review]
05·    Twilight - Stephenie Meyer
06·    New Moon - Stephenie Meyer
07·     Eclipse -  Stephenie Meyer
08·     The Second Short Life of Bree Tanner  Stephenie Meyer [will review]
09-   Breaking Dawn - Stephenie Meyer
10· Remember, Remember (The Fifth of November) - The History of Britain in Bite-Sized Chunks- Judy Parkinson
11- He's a Stud, She's a Slut and 49 Other Double Standards Every Woman Should Know - Jessica Valenti [will review]
12- Just So Stories - Rudyard Kipling [will review]

So my total of books completed in March is 12, bang on target!

Definately on the list for next month are the books I haven't gotten round to yet from January and February and the library books I got out in March but didn't have time to read:
- Dracula by Bram Stoker
- The Amber Spyglass by Phillip Pullman
- The Noticeably Stouter QI Book of General Ignorance by John Lloyd and John Michinson
- Mary and Maria  by Mary Wollstonecraft
- Matilda by Mary Shelley
- Love Letters of Great Women
- Anne of Green Gables by L.M Montgomery
- Little Women by Louisa May Alcott
- Animal Farm by George Orwell
- King of the Pirates by Daniel Defoe
- My Name is Mina - David Almond

Let's see how far I can get in April!

So February ended with a total of 28 books in 2011, plus the 12 of March, means I have now read 40 books since the beginning of the year. 40 books in 3 months. Awesome. So if I can read 10 more books I will have reached my New Year's Resolution target of 50 books, in only 4 months.
