1. What did you do in 2005 that you'd never done before?
Rode the Amtrak to the State Fair, spent a week in Berlin, spent three days in Philadelphia, five days in Alabama, seven days in the woods, held three jobs, and dated a guy for over a year.
2. Did you keep your New Year's resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I didn't really make any New Year's resolutions last year. My resolutions for this year are to be mindful of what I eat (I've already mapped it out and changed my school meal plan) and work out for at least 1 hour a day, 6 days a week.
3. Did someone close to you give birth?
Nope, but virtually all of my female friends from high school are pregnant.
4. Did anyone close to you die?
My paternal grandfather.
5. What countries did you visit?
Germany and Alabama (I think it counts).
6. What would you like to have in 2006 that you lacked in 2005?
An engagement ring and visible abs and triceps (jeez, that sounds shallow!).
7. What dates from 2005 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
November 28th, that was my one-year anniversary with Joe. We only got to spend 10 minutes with each other that day because we both had term papers to work on.
October 14, when I organized a surprise birthday party for Joe.
June 20-something, my grandfather's funeral.
November 1-3, at the NMSA conference in Philly
8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
I DJed a radio show from 7-9am on Wednesdays, plus spent 10 hours a week at a middle school, held three jobs, played rugby, went to class, and had a boyfriend on campus, so balancing all those things at once while maintaining a 3.7 GPA is pretty great, I think.
9. What was your biggest failure?
Not scoring a try yet in rugby.
10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
I had a really nasty strep-like virus that I got in Berlin, but I got better.
11. What was the best thing you bought?
Pedicures and massages.
12. Whose behavior merited celebration?
Joe, my partner and best friend. Even though I give him such a hard time sometimes, he is always patient with me and always cheers me up when I'm down.
13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
Kathy, the lady who's supposedly running the middle grades education program, has proved to be a jealous, immature, and irresponsible person. As a result, I'm definitely NOT going to pursue my master's in education at UNCG. You ask her a question, and she always says, "I don't know" or "Go ask Dr. Miller." She acts like she's hot shit but she doesn't know what the heck she's doing. It made me incredibly tempted to switch over to getting high school licensure, but I resisted. What's even better is that I have TWO classes next semester with her instead of one.
14. Where did most of your money go?
Sadly, resturants. I should probably create a new resolution to handle this.
15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?
My boyfriend wants to marry me.
16. What song[s] will always remind you of 2005?
Anything from MF Doom, Little Brother, The Rosebuds, or "Discovery" from New Buffalo
17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
i. happier or sadder? happier
ii. thinner or fatter? I weigh the same. Hooray!
iii. richer or poorer? About the same.
18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
Go to the gym and sleep
19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Eat bad food and procrastinate
20. How will you be spending Christmas?
I spent Christmas at home with family & my boyfriend
22. Did you fall in love in 2005?
My love that I fell into in 04 only strengthens and grows with a healthy passion.
23. Any one-night stands?
Nope.
24. What was your favorite TV program?
Curb Your Enthusiasm and South Park
25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
I don't hate anyone, but there are a few people that get on my nerves from time to time.
26. What was the best book you read?
The Watchmen by Alan Moore, Outer Dark by Cormac McCarthy, Invisible Man by Ralph Ellison, and I'm pretty impressed with the collection of short stories by Flannery O'Connor that I'm reading right now.
27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
The Rosebuds, MF Doom, and Little Brother
28. What did you want and get?
A wonderful relationship with a man I love, kitchen equipment (thanks Mom), a fun season of rugby, a great class of 6th graders to learn from, and a kind and knowledgable teacher to learn from during my internship at Kiser Middle School.
29. What did you want and not get?
I didn't want to have a college class taking place at Kiser (that means I'd have to commute there 4 days a week) but alas, they're doing it again this spring semester and I'm not happy about that.
30. Favorite film of this year?
Me You and Everyone We Know, Sin City, Polar Express in 3-D, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (saw it twice), and Munich were all good. I could watch Sin City a million times and never get tired of it.
31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you? I turned 20 and we went out for Indian food. My 21st birthday is in 20 days so WATCH OUT!
32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
If my summer job wasn't so boring and if I didn't have to drive to Kiser every Tuesday.
33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2005?
The JcPenny and American Eagle sale rack? Yeah, that's me.
34. What kept you sane?
Joe and the occasional chai latte.
35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Angelina Jolie. I can't help but like her. Also Oprah.
36. What political issue stirred you the most?
Hurricane Katrina and the following governmental action. I called my congressman and complained when I heard that they were actually thinking of cutting free-and-reduced lunch budgets to help pay for Katrina costs. They eventually left that out of the final bill.
37. Who do you miss?
Sandra, even though I saw her about a week ago.
38. Who was the best new person you met?
Jennifer Eldridge is cool. I love her diamond "stripper" necktie.
39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2005:
I will expect you to live it if you preach it.
