i've been wondering about this topic for quite some time. and i noticed that a lot of the characters that i like, in movies and anime all seem to die. whether they were good, bad, evil or grey, it didn't matter.
does it say something about my psychology that most of the time, they die? in the movie, "lady in the water", a character was a critic, that would analyze movies, tv shows and books and would say that each character in a movie was a stereotype. all characters had roles that they played. i.e., the token black, hispanic, asian character that would always die. the geek that would always die, and you get the picture.
so does that mean that instinctively, i'm only attracted to those characters that die? let me take naruto for instance (it's one of the only anime where there are characters constantly dying). haku (and zabuza) story arc. there was something sad and sweet, and because the characters were lovely, a lot of people actually empathized when they died. not only did their deaths let naruto understand what a shinobi should be (instead of what they are), they were the first to die in front of naruto. i guess, they died for a reason? so many fans were affected by their deaths.
but i guess my point is, i liked haku, and he died.
i would say gaara, but in the end, he lived. but i guess it's still the same. he "died". he's what i call "redeemable" characters. they've searched for redemption, and gaara had actually found his (compared to a lot of other characters...). and if he didn't look for redemption, i still would have liked him. he, out of everyone, truly understood naruto. and those that do, should be loved.
my next is sasori. not sure if it's he's pretty or something, but i think it was because i pitied him. if they loved and cared for him instead of casting him out, i'm sure things would have been different. but then again, geniuses do think differently.
and lastly, my favourite character in the naruto universe, itachi. everyone that had doubted him... HAH!! i was right!!! but in this case, i did want to be wrong... maybe he would have lived longer. he (and haku) didn't deserve their deaths. all they really wanted to do was to protect their precious people. and that's not a crime... they didn't have to die. my poor beautiful itachi. you loved your brother and your village so much, you decided to carry these burdens on your own. including the fact that you would be branded by the village you love so much as a traitor and the fact that your brother would hate you with all of his might (and that would you die by said brother)..., all because of lies so you could protect them.
itachi's death hurts me, (including the fact that i was correct,) because he loved his brother so much... let me forget that he died and let's move onto another subject.
in blood+, solomon died, and he was so sweet, lovely, and beautiful. nuriko died in fushigi yuugi. nakago (and yes, i know he was a "bad guy",) but i'm sure when you grew up you would be messed up as well, because your king enjoyed feeling up your child body and raping you.
there are others, but i've taken meds, and i'm not really focused right now. but my point is, that they're dead. and i liked them.
...so what does that say about me?
