Okay.. I've been meaning to write a real LJ entry for a while, but this is not it. This is just a rant I can't contain anymore.
Why does everybody love zombies so much? I DON'T GET THE WHOLE ZOMBIE THING, which seems like it's gradually grown into the current big quirky nerd fad, following on the footsteps of ninjas and pirates. I DON'T GET IT!! What is the fascination? What makes them interesting? Admittedly I never had much interest in the horror genre, so maybe someone more experienced can inform me, but isn't it always the same story, over and over? People get attacked by zombies- they fight to survive, some live some get eaten. I can get why the survival story can be compelling, but zombies have got to be one of the most boring monsters ever. There's nothing to them- they're dead, ugly, eat brains.. sometimes move slowly with their hands out. Practically everyone I know is obsessed with zombies in some way, and I really really don't understand the fascination. So zombie fans, please tell me why you love zombies, because I don't get it, and I feel like I am the only one who doesn't get it.

EDIT:
Alright, if you disagree, feel free to post your own feelings, but my one friend has explained zombie love to me and my understanding is this: zombies are like retarded people that we're allowed to make fun of/abuse/be afraid of. They're proxies for us to project our fear and hatred and humor and violence on to. I can understand that. I think I'm too analytical for zombies though. If you are frustrated at people and want to blow them away/mess with them, to me zombies are no longer people, thus it would have no cathartic effect for me.
