They say the grass is greener...

Ben, my handyman extraordinairre, has been building us a backyard fence to give the pooch a place to play safely and to keep the dogs that seem to roam around our neighborhood (hello, there is a leash law) away from Mr. Mike, since they seem to think he is a chew toy.  We also kind of hope it will keep Mr. Mike reigned in, since he'll have a "property line," though we know for a fact he won't be fenced in, he's too much of a free-spirit.  But as other neighborhood cats seem hardly interested in jumping fences, it might keep some of them out, and thus decrease yet one more of Mr. Mike's Injury Threats.

So we'll start with a bit of our supplies.  You can't rightly build a fence without wood!

And it's easier to cut the wood if you have saw.  This was Ben's birthday gift to himself, of sorts.

At first, Ben was not a fan of my journalistic intentions to record his fence-building efforts.

But soon, just like a good subject should, he forgot I was around and just let me take photos without letting it disturb him.

Notice mama kitty ignoring everyone in the back left there.

And so we have the completed section of fence, including the gate!

The fence is actually completed all around the street side now, too, with the exception of the big gate that Ben will be creating in order for us to still be able to get a car back there if necessary.  Plus he's getting a 12x16 storage building in a month or so, and it'll have to get back there somehow!

For my final photo, I give you the often elusive Mama Kitty:

She and Mr. Mike share a same, sort of angry/bored face, where Sully gets his thick, soft fur and coloring from her.

Back to the fence:  We're hoping that it will be finished by the end of the labor day weekend, along with the side-walkway.  Then we move on to our next project:  the Patio!
