I spent a good part of the morning thinking that UPS was never gonna show up. My book left the depot 10 minutes from my house at 6am...and I didn't get it until 12:40. Grrrrrr. Of course the UPS man shows up right after I finished making tacos for lunch...not exactly book reading friendly food. So Harry had to wait while I finished lunch and then the marathon began.
I'm still processing everything. I of course bawled my eyes out during a good portion of the last 150-200 pages.
Of course I'm *thrilled* that we got confirmation that all our theories about Snape and Dumbledore planning his death and that Snape was Dumbledore's man to the end.
The Snape/Lily connection - fan fic cliche but that particular rumor has been out there for so long that I can live with it.
I'm undecided how I feel about the manner of Snape's death. Of course I would have liked to have seen something more overtly heroic but I think he would have hated that. He maintained his cover to the end and tried to buy as much time for Harry as he could, and in the end gave Harry what he needed to finish his task. He was the quiet hero to the end.
The finale battle for Hogwarts was a lot of what I imagined it would be. As in every battle good people die - it broke my heart to see Fred die, to learn that both Remus and Tonks were killed - that part especially bothered me. I was never much of a Tonk/Remus shipper but it was done and they had a baby and she could have spare one of them. But thus is the nature of war.
But Huzzah! that Percy finally pulled his head out of his ass and joined his family once again. Neville and Luna rock my world but I wanted to see more of them.
Best line of the book...."NOT MY DAUGHTER, YOU BITCH!" Molly, you are made of awesome.
Dobby's death made me misty eyed and Kreacher.....wow, did not see that one coming but at the end where he rallied the House Elves at Hogwarts to fight was awesome.
Of course there was ship.....anyone who knows me knows that r/hr and h/g make me gag *just* a little bit. Of course I resigned myself long ago that I would eventually have to read the words in the books but that doesn't mean that I didn't roll my eyes a few times and make some gagging noises. I'm completely content to live in my little corner of fandom and be happy.
I did get a good chuckle out of Riddle!Harry and Riddle!Hermione taunting Ron and then making out! That did kind of rock my world just a little bit.
I'm sure there's more that I want to comment on and I'll remember in due course once I've fully processed it all. I'm still a little emotional at the moment - but I have thoroughly enjoyed the ride.
