I am so offended by the fact that they are even debating adding a constitutional amendment to ban gay marriage. I know, my views are very liberal for some to handle, but think about the basis of our country. Our country is based on freedom, on equal rights, on opportunities for all. The constitution has been used over the years to give and guarantee rights to groups that have previously been denied those rights (such as banning slavery and giving women the right to vote). I am appauled by the idea of an amendment that would be used to DENY rights. That is not what this country is about. I hope those that aren't as keen on the idea of gay marriage as I am realize that while they don't necessarily agree with the policy, it is an awful thing to use our constitution to take away the rights of a group of people. They tried that once before, it was called prohibition, IT DIDN'T WORK! I know there's no way this will ever pass (at least I hope not), but I hate the idea that someone would even consider it.
