between marathons - injury & recovery

Feb 22, 2011 16:37

after my first double-header i was hurting.  my legs were good.  my back was good.  my achilles (or so i believed) was inflamed & my right big toenail was black.

before seeing jessica (chiropractor of  balance natural medicine) i was worried for my upcoming marathon.  i would finish it, the question was how painful would it be.

after meeting with jessica i found out it was my peroneus (muscle-s-?).  she helped get rid of quite a bit of the inflamation.  she also taped it up for me.  i was feeling much more confident about my pain quotient.

kinesio tape thanks to dr. balbo

for more information on the peroneus muscles from wikipedia - these will open in new windows.

peroneus brevis  - peroneus longus  -  foot (scroll down or search for "peroneus" on the page)  - peroneus muscles

i iced it when i got home (in a bucket thanks to joe).

got to talk with samantha tisdel from the ouray county plaindealer for an update on the project.  (thank you).  the article will eventually be here (in the news section of this site).

wed i had work - teaching little kids to ski.  with the support of the ski boot my peroneus felt great.  my toenail - not so great.   this was the first time i enjoyed when my toes were frozen.

thursday i was off again.  each day my injuries felt a little better.  my body has been recovering much faster and efficiently that i could have hoped.  i am incredibly grateful for this.

to be safe - i picked up an ankle brace en route to the airport.

friday it felt better & saturday (race morning) i'd say it felt %90.  still a little tender so i chose to use the ankle brace.

after the race (full blog LINK coming soon) it felt great until the last little bit of my drive to the hotel (when i stopped for food).

once i got to the hotel, iced, elevated, re-iced in the morning - it felt %90 again.

my peroneus is about %95 - still a little tender and can walk with little or no issues.

my toenail is clear again.  the only sign of the previous issue is the red directly below the toenail (towards my leg).

thank you to all the good thoughts & thank you to my body for doing amazing recovery.

hope all be wonderful :)
