To be fair, they did watch helplessly as Zuko took Aang. The gifs that you used are scenes from before Zuko takes Aang. Aang reassures the kids that it'll be okay when Zuko marched him onto the ship.
I can't believe I'm defending the movie.
Yes, the Northern Water Tribe being the last stronghold is... eh... That's why it was easy for Na Sing Se to fall, because it had no outer wall.
Reading what I typed, that was a bit vague. So, the gifs are Sokka preparing for the incoming Fire Nation soldiers coming because of the old ship's flare that was triggered when Aang tripped a wire. Sokka told Aang to leave because he caused so much trouble already. Aang leaves and then Zuko comes. Sokka tries to fight him but gets thrown into the snow. Then Aang comes to help and Zuko, as well as everyone else, finds out he's the Avatar. Aang goes with Zuko to spare the tribe.
So yes, Sokka and Katara watch helplessly, but they should NOT have asked "Why is he taking him?"
What the heck? They should know by then that he's the Avatar!
But I do hope that's in the movie, though, just to upset the procasters. Though at this point, I don't think anything will make them upset.
Yes that is the key, they watch the Fire Nation take (not drag) Aang AFTER they tried to fight for him. They also knew who he was instantly.
With the dialog in the rewrite, it seems they only find out who the hell he is much later in the story and are more "DUUUUUH" and not proactive. So they just take him in, Fire Nation drags him away and then he escapes (with some minor help from Katara and Sokka) and then I bet at the Air Temple that is when we find out who he is via the Keymaker.
UGH! Talk about butching up the plot. I felt he did that just to make him like "LOOK HOW I IMPROVED IT". You don't break things that are already fixed. -,-;
Mistype, still, the way it sounds is that the Fire Nation just shows up and takes him like they were hiding him and they just walk away without knowing who he is.
I bet that is why he is passed out after he wakes up. There is no introduction at the ice burg, I'm guess that the intro to Aang comes later.

That's the thing. They never did fight for Aang. Sokka fought for the village. When Zuko took Aang away, everyone did watch helplessly, as seen here.
