Although I can't really relate to the Star Wars analogy (never could just sit down and really WATCH one), I absolutely agree. Season 2 was definitely my favorite of all 3. Don't ask me why, because I don't really have an answer. The entire season just has this aura that makes me go "Frak yeah. THIS is how you make a television show." Can't wait to really get to the meat of this Book in our future Series Rewatches. :)

I like season 2 best in part because it has both Toph and Iroh. Season 3 has Toph, but not a whole lot of Iroh.

Toph rarely talked during the first few episodes of Season 3, which really irked me, especially since just 1 episode ago she'd declared herself the Greatest Earthbender EVAR and had discovered a previously-thought-impossible art of bending. And Iroh never really got to show his skillz (even the Liberation of Ba Sing Se didn't show him very much), which I was really disappointed about. I, like a lot of people, was hoping for an Iroh/Azula Epic Showdown. :/

I think for me it's because Season 1 was the introduction and the production team figuring out how to do things. And then in Season 3 they had to figure out how to end it all (and you got annoyed with the filler then because you were expecting the build-up).

So I agree: Season 2 was the best. They hit it and then some.

I agree. Season 1 was the series trying to find its legs - it had to establish the settings, the characters, the plot, etc. Season 3 kind of had the time crunch of getting to the finale, and so certain parts felt kind of rushed to me. But Season 2 didn't have to do too much to establish the characters, or figure out how to tie everything up, so it was able to just go with the plot and build on the characters.

I like this comparison.
It is much darker than season one and more serious (better written) than season 3. Which shouldn't have happened and season three does have it's moments but it's not as hardcore.

Season 1: Luke Aang learns the force to bend all the elements. Katara is Leia. Sokka is Han? Chewy? C3PO?
W/e Sokka is in a league of his own. Zuko is Han in the end?

Season 2: Aang learns he has to defeat Darth Vader the Fire Lord. Azula is Boba Fett. They get betrayed by someone they thought was a friend. Then the BAD GUYS WIN!

Season 3: Um...Ewoks? I'm sure if I thought about it better I would figure it out and go in depth.

Did nobody notice the Star Wars shout out shot at the end of Book 1? :-/

What was the shout out?

I swear this shot: http://screenshots.avatarspiritmedia.net/120/474.jpg

has a match somewhere in Star Wars (or Empire Strikes Back) but I'm having trouble finding the matching shot...

Hmmm, maybe the last shot of Luke and Leia in The Empire Strikes Back? Where they are looking out the spaceships window. Though it is only two people and not three...
That's the only one that comes to mind.
I can see it though, it's very Star Wars-y.

"...and I find it a little saddening that I have to aware that title to Season 2 instead of 3."

It took me a while to understand what you were trying to mean. Then I realized you meant "award" instead of "aware."

Another analogy that applies is Lord of the Rings, though; it's standard operating procedure for Book Two of a trilogy to end on a downer.

(And I felt that a lot of the plot developments in "Crossroads of Destiny" felt rushed, but that's an argument for a later post.)
