TV Shows on DVD.com is reporting that Nickelodeon and Paramount Home Entertainment plan to release a Collector's Edition DVD of Avatar: The Last Airbender Book 1 with "limited edition package art" and an additional disc. The June 22nd release is timed to help advertise the M. Night Shyamalan film.

Relive from the beginning the epic saga of Avatar: The Last Airbender, the animated series that quickly became a phenomenon, creating a huge fan base that spans the globe! This newly designed limited edition 7-disc collector's edition includes the entire Book 1: Water compilation, packed with special features, an exclusive behind-the scenes documentary and a beautifully illustrated paperback book that provides a unique, insider's view of the amazing designs, storyboards, paintings and animation.

As a huge fan of the series, the release of this collector's edition is definitely tempting, and I want to support the series and it's progressive depiction of characters of color. On the other hand, purchasing it would fill Paramount's pockets and indirectly support the film and it's glass ceilinged casting.

One solution is to purchase the set used, which would mean not a single cent of your personal money would go to Paramount. Another might be to wait for the Complete Series release a few more years down the line, maybe then buying the DVDs will be irrelevant to the movie's bottom line. hmm...thoughts?
