Men vs. Women

Oct 25, 2006 12:24

I just got back from working and I have determined that I have to teach this guy a thing or two about women. It seems that his wife (who is very nice) doesn't do much in terms of manual labour. She doesn't lift or move things or anything else.

Well, anybody who knows me, knows that I have no problem with men doing things for me, but that I am quite capable of doing things for myself.

Last week he got me to add some shelving to Ikea bookshelves and was actually instructing me on how to do it!!! Then he was hovering over me as I was putting together some simple Ikea shelving and acted as if I didn't know the difference between a screwdriver and a hammer.

I keep trying to tell him that I am quite capable, but it never really seems to sink in. Now, it could be that he has always had to look after the "women folk" but I don't need to be molly cottled. Especially if I am doing something that has clear instructions.

Today when I was putting together some more Ikea stuff, his wife said that she didn't know any women that could actually put together Ikea stuff, and more power to me.

This all leaves me shaking my head. Are women really that "helpless" that they need a man around, or am I just fortunate to have women around me that are anything but helpless.

I quite definitely remember carynB, mycrazyhair and I putting together bookshelves, and desks and other Ikea stuff, quite fine on our own. Yeah, there were lots of giggles, some frustration and maybe even an ouch here or there, but we got it done, and done well.

All I know is that I am glad that I am not a helpless female and that I am surrounded by strong women as well.

Thanks!
