I went home to see my family for a week, and to see the big Mumford and Sons concert in Simcoe. While I was there, my sister told me a story that my Grandpa had told her about one of our ancestors.
This happened in Quebec in the 1600s, or maybe early 1700s. Our male ancestors were apparently great big strapping men (my sister said, "I don't how that happened though because all of the men in our family now are short.") The ancestor in question had just bought a new horse in another town and was riding home. There was a house on the way, and the people there told him to come in and they'd feed him a meal for a good price and let him stay the night. So he went in, and as soon as he went in they boarded up the door and they were going to kill him and steal his new horse. He broke the door in two, ran out, got his horse, and went home. The next day, he told his friends about it and they didn't want the people to get away with it (I guess there wasn't much in the way of law enforcement back then.) So they all went back to the house, boarded it up, and burned it down with everyone inside.
I think my ancestor overreacted a bit.
