Summary: Sakuya is scared of thunderstorms.
Word Count: 559

Notes: This is written from the universe where Sakuya is Tatsuya's little brother. You know, just so I don't cause confusion for anybody. I wrote this because it's raining like a bitch outside and I'm not too fond of storms myself. >_>

Really, Sakuya thinks to himself, he’s too old for this shit. He’s too old to be cowering in a corner, squeezing his eyes shut and hugging his knees while the thunder crashes over the sound of pounding rain on the rooftop. He’s seventeen now, and seventeen-year-old boys are not afraid of stupid things like thunderstorms.

Another boom of thunder, and suddenly the lights go out. Even with his eyes shut Sakuya can tell this. Fuck, he thinks. It’s not enough that he has to sit through the storm by himself, he has to sit through it in the dark too. He tries to curl himself into a smaller ball, presses his hands over his ears to try to drown out the noise, silently attempts to will the storm to just go away.

He can just hear the sound of someone calling his name from a distance. He doesn’t know if it’s real or if he’s imagining it so he’s not alone. Same goes for the footsteps echoing down the hallway toward his room. But it must be his imagination; no one else is home, they’ve all gone out somewhere and won’t be back til later.

But the door to his room opens, and a quiet “Sakuya, are you in here?” is heard. Sakuya doesn’t need to see to know that voice.

“Tatchan~” he whimpers pathetically. He’s shaking now, but doubts his brother can see it. “What are you doing home?”

“I came back early. Oh damn, where the hell-“ Sakuya peeks an eye open when he hears Tatsuya going through drawers, and sees the bright beam of a flashlight suddenly appear on the other side of the room. Tatsuya shines the flashlight around until it finally lands on his little brother’s form, huddled in the space between the wall and the bed. Sakuya squints at the sudden brightness.

“I thought you were out at the movies with Koki and them,” Sakuya says quietly.

“I was, but I came back when the storm started. I didn’t want you to have to sit through it alone,” Tatsuya replies. He sits down next to Sakuya, puts an arm around him, doesn’t say anything more.

Sakuya is a little bit shocked, but leans into the comfort of his brother’s hug. This is a rarity, for them to be so close. The last time he can remember, he was still in single-digits. In fact, that last memory is of another storm, years ago, where they sat underneath a blanket holding hands and singing songs while waiting for the lights to come back on.

But that was when they were kids. He actually sort of figured that the Tatsuya of the present would have laughed at him and called him a baby, insulting him as was his usual way in recent years. But no, Tatsuya just sits there silently, reassuring him without words that it’s ok, I’m here, you’re not alone.

Sakuya doesn’t realize that he’s been crying.

After a couple minutes, Tatsuya starts humming, and Sakuya concentrates on the sound of it. It’s comforting, and helps soothe his fear.

When the storm finally dies down and the power comes back on, neither moves for a minute. Then Tatsuya shuts off the flashlight and goes to stand up.

“Arigatou… Tatchan…” Sakuya suddenly whispers, and the older brother just smiles down at him.

“No problem.”
