Favorite Quote? Why does it have significance to you?

From Tom Stoppard's Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead:

"A man breaking his journey between one place and another, at a third place of no name, character, population or significance, sees a unicorn cross his path and disappear. That in itself is startling, but there are precedents for mystical encounters of various kinds or, to be less extreme, a choice of persuasions to put down to fancy' until- 'My God,' says a second man, 'I must be dreaming, I thought I saw a unicorn.' At which point, a dimension is added that makes the experience as alarming as it will ever be. A third witness, you understand, adds no further dimension, only spreads it thinner still, and the more witnesses there are the thinner it gets and the more reasonable it becomes until it is as thin as reality, the name we give to the common experience...
'Look, look!' recites the crowd. 'A horse with an arrow in its forehead! It must have been mistaken for a deer.'"

Sorry that was long and typo-ridden, but I really like it. Perhaps I should have used a haiku instead? Anyway, I love what my chosen quote has to say about perception, reality and crowd mentality. The whole play is incredibly quotable and Stoppard's linguistic ability is amazing.

Likes:

Kaitenzushi, Japanese food in general, kanji, haiku, go, shougi, Toukyou, Livejournal, swords, cherry blossom viewing, live music, sword fights in the rain and the beach during a storm.

Dislikes:

The usual. Homophobia, misogyny, racism, sexism...
Less obviously, those who work against you but never come out and state their problems. I find it difficult to put up a fight unless someone is openly hostile.

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time? Why?

I like going to the theatre, but there's not really much on where I live. The last show I went to was Derren Brown's, whom I'm reasonably certain almost no-one here will know. I also like photography and my digital camera, but I never take photos of myself and most tend to be 'artistic' close-ups of objects rather than people. I love writing and am currently working on original fiction. It's probably too obvious to mention that I like reading manga and watching anime, but I do.

Who do you look up to as a model for how to live your life? Why?

On how to live? I can't think of anyone right now. I can think of a handful whose intelligence I admire and their abilities in certain areas, but none as life role models.

Your best quality? Why?

My stubbornness. I'll stay with something no matter what.

Your worst? Why?

I'm a daydreamer and a snob who likes to be thought of as smarter than she really is.

The world's not a perfect place. What would you want to change about it? Why?

I'd place it under my control. Yes, I'm serious.

You're not perfect, either. What would you change about yourself? Why?

My fitness level.

Do you believe in people?

I can see and hear them, therefore they exist. Probably.

In yourself?

Yes. Eventually.

If you were given the chance to become one of the characters for a short period of time, who would you choose? Why?

Probably Seimei. I'd have the advantage of having my own personal slave(s), plus I'd get to be deliciously evil. It's a winning combination.

Anything else?

I suppose this is where I put the standard photos?

The first was taken on the streets of Harajuku on a Sunday. The second at a temple near Ueno.
