Concerning Seimei's Date of "Death" -- is this an error?

Jun 19, 2012 02:26

About a year ago in this community I was asked by someone where I got the reference that at the beginning of the manga it had only been two weeks since Seimei's "death".  Unfortunately for some reason when I tried to reply back to them this reply counts a spam (not sure why that is).

However, I really wanted to post this for them.

Original I had said that at the beginning of the manga Seimei had been "murdered" two weeks beforehand. I was wrong. It was actually less than a week -- actually more like days.

First of all Ritsuka and Seimei are stated to be five years apart. (4) In one of Ritsuka's transcriptions Hitomi mentions that in the fourth grade between the second and third semester Ritsuka was 10 years old which would go hand in hand since his birthday is December 21. (5-6) Two grades later he was in the sixth grade in his second semester (hence the reason you only see a transcript only for his first semester in 6th grade) meaning that he was actually only 11 at the start of the manga and would be turning 12 the following month. (6)

Seimei states that his birthday is November 14. (1) And we know that he is five years older than Ritsuka at the time of his birth. Also it states in the manga that the Ritsuka's first day to the new school was on November 17. (2)

Now if Seimei had died at 17 as the newspaper reported it to be (3) then the dates of his "death" could roughly be around November 14-16. The 14 being more reasonable (if you can say that considering in that time he changed house, school, and held a funeral for his brother).

TBH with you though I really think this actually might just come down to an error on Yun Kouga's part but who knows, this may also be intentional.

4. It is also stated that Seimei was 5 years older than Ritsuka in the extra chapter of the Tokyo Pop volume 7 of Loveless. (Notes: This extra chapter was written for the December 28, 2005 issue of Zero-Sum which unfortunately I can't find a transclation scan online)

5. Ritsuka's age in between second and the third semester of his fourth year is stated that he was 10: http://mangafox.me/manga/loveless/v02/c001/38.html

6. Also note that the "second term lasts from early September to late December with a 2-week long break for Christmas and New Year's at the end of the year. The term is followed by a third term from early January to late March and a brief week-long spring break." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Academic_term
