I'm in Machias, Maine! Very close to the eastern-most point of the USA. My family came here for the Fourth of July because apparently my grandfather is from here. I thought it was going to be fairly boring, but it hasn't been bad. It's been a treat to have wireless internet in the hotel, and we're by a pretty nice riverside.
Today we went to my great-grandparents' grave, saw a puppet show, ate real strawberry shortcake, went on a Navy destroyer, and saw my great-grandfather's books and portrait in the Eastport public library. Despite the internet usage, it's felt like a very, er, down-easty vacation. Which is good, right? I think so.
Also I started reading The Color Purple. Val and Jeff are going to kill me, since they have been trying to get me to read a number of books, such as Bridge to Terabithia. We were at Border's the other day (where we talked to Mr. Miliken at length =) ) and Val even bought Bridge so I would read it. But I saw The Color Purple at the Eastport library booksale and decided to culture myself, and read 100 pages of it this afternoon. It's good, so sue me.
Hope you all like my new icon! The count on Pirates 3 is 3 so far in theaters. So if anyone hasn't seen it, I need to catch up to my 7 times I saw the first one!
