So I saw a couple people on my flist post about doing this and, well, I am nothing if not a bandwagon jumper so I thought I would try my hand as well.
Basically, I'll just be talking about my fandoms/things relating to my fandoms/things I find interesting (than are tangentially related to fandom). Essentially, it's an excuse for me to talk about things I'm interested in that I don't necessarily get the chance to talk about. So, books, tv shows, movies, actors/actresses, ships, characters, theatre, etc.
So I mentioned in an earlier post that I was doing a travel abroad program in Paris for May and June, and I'm currently in my fourth week abroad. It's been so awesome so far; Paris is a gorgeous (albeit expensive) city and I've been able to do and see so much. I've gotten drunk by the Seine, been to Notre Dame, the Louvre (yes I saw the Mona Lisa), the outside of the Moulin Rouge, the Arc du Triomphe, and a whole buttload of other museums. And this weekend we're going to Normandy and the D-Day beaches, which I am especially excited about since WWII is one of my favorite eras of modern history.
But I've also been pretty busy as well, hence my lack of activity doing...anything really. I thought I could keep up with my various graphic challenges while on the trip, but it quickly became apparent that was not going to be the case, so I'm going on graphic hiatus until I get back in two weeks.
However, the best part of my trip so far didn't even take place in Paris, but instead was my four day trip to London! I was going to go with my friends but they all bailed at the last minute (aka waited until the night before to book train tickets and a hostel and then balked at how expensive they were) so I ended up by myself. And honestly, it sucked at first but I ended up having a blast wandering around by myself. I stumbled across a set for a movie that was starring Ralph Fiennes and Michelle Fairley, and ended up hanging around for a couple hours and getting a nice stalker photo of Ralph Fiennes (who was also the director). I also had fun just hanging out in pubs watching Euro 2012 matches and making friends that way; I met a lot of interesting people that way.
And I saw Les Miserables on West End (which was OMGSOGOOD) and hung outside the stage door and got several autographs (including one from Hadley Fraser, who played Javert (my favorite character) and who is stupidly attractive and super nice and talkative and now I'm hopelessly in love).
I actually saw Les Mis two nights in a row because that is the kind of person I am and also because Hadley Fraser was just SO SO GOOD and I might have a bit of a problem with how obsessed I am with him (he has a bit part in the Les Mis movie along with Fra Fee, Frances Ruffelle, and Colm Wilkinson oh gosh is it December yet). And also I'm attempting to read the Les Miserables novel again, since it was free on the Kindle store and I'm also more used to Victor Hugo's writing style after reading The Hunchback of Notre Dame.
*cough* Anyways, with the help of Google I managed to hunt down the sole police box to be found on the streets of London, because BY GOD I was not leaving without a picture with one:
And that's about the most exciting things I've done so far. A lot of sight-seeing and playing tourist and getting to see things I'd always read about in books. And I have the most gorgeous view out my window: lots of rooftops and the Eiffel Tower in the distance. I've been taking a buttload of photos of the view and various times of day, and I might create a flickr album for all of them when I get back home.
And that's about it! Only a couple more weeks of gallivanting around Europe, and then it's back to the states (and having to write two 15-page papers for my classes, fml).
