Running...Running on a River...

So we had the amazing idea early in the week to go canoeing at Canoe Country. So we tried waiting out the rain, cause we were supposed to go at like noon but by 2 we figured screw it, we want to go Canoeing. We double checked the radar and figured it would stop raining in about a half hour or so.

When we got to the canoe place we decided to do the 7 mile (aprox. 3 hour) trip. We should have known right away that this was a bad idea...anyone else remember a 3 hour tour on water that went bad? A coconut radio and an old man named the Professor? Ring any bells?

So anyway, Matt and Kris went with us. We took two seperate canoes. Jase and I in one and Matt and Kris in the other. Within 10 feet of pushing off Matt and Kris capsized for the first time. Oh and did I mention its pouring down rain out? So I am laughing my ass off as Kris is chasing down their shoes and paddles and Jason and Matt turn the canoe back over and empty it out.

About 15 minutes later we have moved all of 10 feet. 3 more capsizes and the boys finally are able to get going. As we get down the river I hear Kris scream, I LOVE IT, I AM POCAHONTAS!!!!! and then *Splash* we pull our canoe over to help them, again.

So after battling the rain and our ever capsizing room mates, we realize that were so far down the river we couldn't see Matt and Kris anymore. So we pull over and wait for them...for about ten minutes. When they finally show up we all hang out for a few minutes and then Jason and I take off again, right around a big turn is a long strech...about half way down we realize, we lost them...AGAIN!

We wait for a few minutes and then think that something might have happend, so we turn around the canoe and battle up river...then we see their stuff in the water. Shoes, paddles and what not, floating down the river. I jump out and pull our canoe to the side and start fishing their stuff outta the river...then we see their canoe. It was half full of water and half submerged under a fallen tree.

Jason and I start to pull the canoe out from under the fallen tree, battling the current and the heavy rain, thinking why the hell did we do this again? We look up and Matt and Kris are floating down the river. Just as we get the canoe pulled outta the water we notice there is a crack in the bottom about the size of a 5 gallon bucket.

We decide that Matt and Kris will have to stay by the side of the river and Jason and I paddle through the storm, another 4 miles to get to the end and alert the staff that our two friends are stranded with a broken, half sunk canoe. Oh, did I mention that this is Kris and Matt's one year anniversary?

So the people drive us kinda close to wear we left Matt and Kris about an hour ago. Find them and then the canoe. So Matt and I half fall/half climb down the 10 foot, slippery side of the embankment, swim across the now swelling river (its been raining steadily all day and its about 5:30 now and still raining) the current was a lot stronger the second time than it was when we left about an hour and a half ago or so.

Matt and I pull the sinking canoe across the river and haul it up the side of the embankment, we then use it as a ladder on the inside and climb up the embankment. about 4 hours after we started, our fun adventure ended. Oh and we got our money back for one of the canoes.

All in all we had a blast and are totally going back, but not when it is raining. Next time we think were gonna do kayaks or maybe do tubing on a nice hot/sunny day. So yeah, that was the adventure for the day.

More later.

P.S. I came home and took a 30 minute hot shower. Much deserved if I may say so myself.
