Happy belated birthday to me.

I turned 37 on Friday. A bit weird. I guess now I am certainly middle-aged. The best part of my birthday was when we took my partner to the opthamalogist, and she said that my partner's eye is getting better. I was quite relieved.

I awoke this morning with the anxiety of having to get things done. In a few minutes I'll jump on the exercise bike and burn off some stress, then we go grocery shopping, then I do the laundary. Ahh, domestic bliss.

In between laundry I will allocate hours to my TAs, read a book for seminar tomorrow and something else that is one of those little things that needs to be done but I can't recall now what it will be, or two hours after completing it won't remember either. The many minute features of life it is, or at least a life that is built toward preventing crises.

For my birthday we went to the Red Lobster in Niagara Falls. I stuffed myself silly, and then we rented two movies - The Man with the Screaming Brain directed by and starring Bruce Campbell of Evil Dead fame, and The Hebrew Hammer, which was pretty silly but still entertaining. I fell asleep by midnight, and perhaps sooner. For my birthday I received two computer games: Hammer & Sickle, which I recommend if you like East bloc turn-based rpgs with fully destructible environments, and Star Wars - Battlefront. The Droid troopers are cool when they say "Uh-oh" but I'm not that thrilled with it. It was a used copy, so no big deal.

This semester I am staying home usually on Thursdays and Fridays and writing, which has allowed me to write maybe 800 words since the semester started. I need to ramp it up a bit, but at least I am making steady progress. I only check my email for work two or three times a week, which saves lots of time.

Hope you all are having a warm January,
rabidotter
