It started off as a simple evening walk. Hand in hand, Soohyun and Kiseop, out for a stroll together The air was warm on their skin, there were no bugs to bother them, and the streets were quiet in general.
The sunset was pretty - pastel and vibrant colors melting together, a perfect mixture of hard and soft. The gorgeous view of the setting sun didn’t last long, but that was okay because they were heading home anyways. Until they were stopped, by the man in the alley.
Red. Soohyun sees red. Feels red. On his shaking hands, pouring past his skin.
“Run,” is all he can say before red falls from his lips.
They pick up on the first ring.
“911, what’s your emergency?”
“Help, please help! He’s stabbing my friend!”
“Who’s stabbing your friend?”
“This man! He’s in all black and I don’t know why he’s stabbing Soohyun but help us, please!”
“Can you tell me where you are?”
“On the corner of 44th and 37th, come quick!”
“We have an ambulance and police on the way, now I need you to stay calm and safe until they get there.”
“How? How can I? He’s gonna find me!”
“First, stop yelling, please.”
“...Okay.”
“Now find a place to hide until help arrives.”
“But I can’t just hide while he stabs...OH GOD HE’S HERE HE FOUND ME HELP ME, PLEASE!”
“Sir, we have police on the way.”
“HE’S CHASING ME! OH GOD, OH GOD, FUCKING HELP HE HAS A KNIFE AND HE’S SMILING LIKE THIS IS A GAME AND HE’S ALREADY CAUGHT ME! HELP!”
“Sir, there’s nothing I can do-”
“WHERE DO I GO?! OH GOD HE’S RIGHT BEHIND-”
(The line goes dead. Kevin looks at the phone in disbelief, and wishes that the fear in that man’s voice didn’t bother him so much.)
Kiseop looks back, sees red, and falls to his knees.
When the police finally get there, they bury him next to Soohyun.
