Come sail away

"Are you alright?" A man in tattered clothes is seated at a bench, puffing on a cigarette and looking listlessly toward the river. His bike with basket is propped along side him.
"Excuse me?" I ask, unsure of his question.
"How are you?" He asks in a friendlier tone.
"Oh, I'm alright. How about you?"
He continues looking off to the river and just nods his head. "You missed the eagles. They were here about an hour ago."
"It's still a lovely day though. Picturesque..."
"Yeah," he looks at me, "that's why I come out here. It's beautiful everyday.

I was driving around Grosse Ile, not doing much at all. Just enjoying the fresh air as I cruised down the idyllic island with my windows down. I passed a woman and at first glance thought she was walking a horse. I mean, you never know what those crazy people on Grosse Ile will do. But it just turned out to be a huge dog sniffing the ground.

--------------------------------

I hadn't seen Liz and Lisa since the last day before Chris left for DC. I remember that day. We all drove around and smoked, laughing about Lisa and Liz's first attempt at modeling for some softcore porn. (I'm still amazed that there's a guy producing porn just a few blocks down the street.)
I called Liz up. She was just leaving work and informed me that there was a Styx concert at Heritage Park in Taylor. I had completely forgotten! She asked if I wanted to go. Of course I did. So, we met up a little later at Meijer to drive to the concert.
She introduced me to her boyfriend Craig. Apparently, Liz works at a dance establishment now. Craig had been in there for a while pounding beers and keeping Liz company. They're really cute together. Craig lifted a cooler bag full of beer into my back seat and we were off.
Liz was on the phone with Lisa, who was already at the park. Lisa said that there was a mile line for tickets. Now I was under the impression that we already had tickets and I was partial correct. Liz and Craig had tickets, but I was ticketless. I didn't really mind. I was a little hung over and if I missed the concert, I may have not been enjoyed it in my state anyhow. But for a $5 ticket to see Styx, I was ready to rush.

We parked and power-walked to the park. There was a carnival going on, and we deftly manuevered around the carnies and past the elephant ear stands. The line was huge and by the time we reached it, Lisa and her boyfriend had already got tickets and were in the concert. We went to the front of the line, in hopes of someone letting us cut. But by the time we made it, tickets were sold out. Then I see Liz talking to some guy. They hug, and she comes back with a ticket. Some nice guy noticed her desperation and just gave her a free ticket. Awesome!
As I walked in, I noticed a pile of disposable cameras along side the woman tearing tickets. I had my 20D with me and no way was I walking all the way back to the car to put it away. Especially since the concert was gonna start. She seemed distracted, so I just held the camera slyly by my other side. Surprisingly, she didn't even notice and just let me through.

Then there was Styx.

Trying to look ghetto.

The gang, minus Craig.
