I love baseball. I read about it daily, I watch every Brewers game I can catch, and when I'm not channel surfing I'll almost always stop when I hit a game (not if the cubs, or yankees, or red sox are playing though, not that interested). I'm submit my second all-star ballot today. I'm looking forward to minor league games in Appleton. Baseball makes summer something to look forward to, not just a break, but something truly enjoyable.
I never used to be like this, not until last October. NLCS, Mets and Cardinals. Rooted for the Mets (why? cause they're awesome). Cried when they lost game seven. It was all just too magical, too perfectly paced. So much suspense, things can change so quickly. Comebacks can really happen, all the time. There's no clock running things, if you can stay alive you can score more runs.
The season lasts forever, things change so often, teams fall apart or come together in August, and they have time to salvage or ruin their seasons. There's so much drama, so much resting on that pitcher, or whoever that fly gets hit to, or whoever steals home on that wild pitch. It may lack the visual poetry of great soccer, but it makes up for it in the story line.
I love baseball fields. The different patterns of length in the grass, the dust kicked up along the baseline, that diamond shape. It's beautiful. I love the sound of the bat hitting the ball, and I love when umpires get yelled at. Baseball is just so... good. even with all the steroid bullshit, and the huge salaries. There's always a cinderella, there's always a David taking down Goliath. Plus, it distracts me from all the annoying family shit that normally makes up my summer.
