paleseptember81 and I were talking about Star Trek. Initially the convention in Vegas, and then discussing the parallels of Star Trek (specifically The Next Generation which we both watched/loved as children, during which the subtleties of various episodes totally went over our heads) and real life. Social commentary, etc etc etc. Here is an excerpt.

(4:25:14 PM): did you see the one with the aliens that had like no gender
(4:25:32 PM): and the one's, "I'm a girl I've known it my whole life but they try and 'fix' us"

(4:26:23 PM): it was so good. It does the same thing I liked about this one incident in bsg, it like...takes the point of view you're used to and flips it on the other side, but makes you identify with it. if that makes sense.
(4:26:55 PM): and fucks your whole head and you see it from the other perspective and go "oh. I see, that was pretty jacked up" well if you're paying attention at all

(4:45:40 PM): but I watch it now and I'm like "...this is a debate about health care" lol
(4:45:47 PM): and the darker stuff and all the sex stuff
(4:46:00 PM): I'm like "there was alot of fucking going on in this show" but as a kid I didn't get it
