Soviet nerd stuff

Apparently there were attempts to introduce the Cyrillic alphabet into Estonian, but I can't find any information about this. I was under the impression that all Soviet languages were required to be written in Cyrillic, but maybe they made an exception, because it never got done. I'm not sure whether Estonian was actively suppressed, but I don't get that impression. I know that there weren't really even efforts to develop Cyrillic writing systems for languages like Finnish and Karelian because Stalin hated them too much.
