This week has been a busy one and today is no exception. The weekend was great though. Anna and I went to Indianapolis to see
Nancy Pearl, a librarian who is best known for the librarian action figure that she is the model for.
Pearl gave an interesting talk about the life, times, and books of librarians. She talked about the library that she grew up going to and how sometimes she remembered things from books and believed that they were her own memories. She told a story about remembering a book from her old library, but not remembering the name. She went back and found it by remembering the location in the stacks. She read it again, but didn’t like it now that she was older.
It reminded me of a book that I read in fifth grade about a guy who makes these dragon men statues only to have them come alive and trap him in his house. I have no idea what this book was called, but I remember where it was in the library very well. I wonder if the fifth grade librarian would let me in to see if it was still there? Of course, that school has changed so much since I was there that it is probably long gone.
Speaking of libraries, Anna
elendriel_212turned me onto
Library Thing and I have started to catalog my books. I am sure I will hit 200 (the free limit) before I am done, but it is a fun time.
Anna and I also went to see Nickel Creek at the Murat on Sunday.
another wonderful camera phone pic
They were amazing, playing a lot of the songs I wanted to hear plus some great covers of Brittney Spears’ “toxic” and Nitty Gritty Dirt Band’s “Cripple Creek.” “Toxic” was very good and made me think that Spears must have some good writers behind all that flash.
Well, back to work on my annotated bib (almost there!)
