Im Anfang war das Wort

I started my summer class last week, which is a German translation class. We talk about how to recognize nouns, verbs, and adjectives all day, working on learning enough of the basics that we can translate passages of text quickly. For the most part we go over lines that we translated on our own the night before. I use a dictionary and Babel Fish to get my lines done.

The Mid-Term and Final will be the same thing. I went into the class thinking that it would never help me, but I feel that I am learning some things that will help with translations and with research in general.

Overall, the class is pretty boring. There is a big mix of English, Philosophy, history, and other grad students in there. Some are pretty cool and some are very annoying. There is one who constantly bitches about the translations. Today she griped because a guy said sundial when she thought it should be translated sun-clock. She fought the teacher for five minutes because the author (they are shitty little text book sentences) might not have meant sundial, because “there are many other types of sun-clocks.”

class, german, school, annoying
