Uncle Tom, IU Fun, and Korah Calls

Well, I am working on the Annotated Bibliography for my final paper in Anthony’s class, but it is slow going because today I am tired and just want to hang out with Anna. The paper is investigating the difference in the ways that Hawthorne and Stowe handle gender and race in The Blithedale Romance and Uncle Tom’s Cabin. It should be pretty cool, but I haven’t gotten my mind around it enough to feel like it is going well. When that comes I will kick it out (hopefully over T-day Break when I will be sitting here in the IU library even more.)

Anna and I played Volleyball with her fellow Library workers last night. It is interesting for me to play sports on many levels. First, most people don’t believe that I am any good. I think this stems from the fact that I am a geek, but I played sports all through high school: volleyball and basketball being my two best (besides tetherball, but you never get much call for tetherball anymore). Second, I get really competitive when I play sports and sometimes that is not good. One of the guys Anna works with brought his Indian girlfriend who had never played before. I had to hold in my frustration. I wasn’t mad at her, but at the fact that we couldn’t have a great game because not everyone could keep the volleys going. Anna says it never showed on my face, which is good since I was trying to just have fun. My biggest problem is just playing someone else’s area when they can’t keep up. So, I avoided that for the most part and by the end she was doing a lot better.

By the end of three games I was beat and now my body is a little sore. Tonight, Anna has SLIS acquaintances coming over to play games. We are breaking out Flux, Save Dr. Lucky, Trivial Pursuit, and others. I should be a fun time.

PS - Korah called last night from Mexico to say that she was having a good time, but her life there was very hard because of the language barrier. Her description of it sounded extremely hard. She takes four classes a day in Spanish, works with a tutor, and baby-sits Spanish speaking children. She informed me that she has been reading my LJ so here is a SHOUT OUT! Can’t wait to see you next month!! Drop a comment when you can.
