In the name of Evan Lysacek, a brief interruption.

Don't hang up on me, Drew, putting you on hold for one post. Mmmkay? Kay.

So I've been an Evan Lysacek fan since Torino, 2006. (The same year I became a Plushenko fan, ironically. Yes, that pairing did come back to bite my butt four years later, didn't it?) The two of them jumpstarted my interest in figure skating.

Four years later, I am the local go-to gal for FS information. (Resident lurker at goldenskate, FSU, and FSVids. What can I say?) I watch every competition, whether or not the US TV networks air it. US TV networks, I shake my first at you. And praise the diehard Korean fans who stream Russian TV live on private servers to allow us impoverished Americans to view Europeans. We cannot thank you enough.

As you can well imagine, the Vancouver Olympics were an exercise in keeping calm as my All Time Favorite and my You Would Be If He Weren't duked it out and ended up silver and gold. Now, I can debate the merits of each performance all day, but that's not the point of this post.

The point is that Evan debuted on Dancing With The Stars (DWTS) last night and I, for the first time (ever), voluntarily flipped on the set to watch Reality TV. More, the rest of the family watched. (Countdown to Apocalypse, commence now.)

What could be better than seeing if Evan has an artistic side? Watching him bring it out to the Viennese Waltz. Now, I've been a waltz freak for far longer than I have been an affecionado of Austria (that came in the last year. Thanks a lot, Drew. Yes, it is your fault.) But as proved by his 2009 World Championships win (check out that long program, it's glorious) Evan looks mighty fine in a tux.

So I was definitely looking forward to DWTS. And Evan didn't disappoint. Yes, I knew the toe pointing would be an issue (just take a gander at the practice clips...) as well as the connection. I mean, he IS a singles skater. He's lucky he's not tripping all over her. ;) But it isn't everyone who has "the wingspan of a 747" AND gets compared to a swan. In practically the same sentence.

When it comes to the waltz, I'll take grace over sass any day.

Evan ended up with 23/30 (second of the night). Looking forward to seeing how he fares the rest of the time. I hope he and Anna get into their off-air interview groove... it's hilarious when she makes all sorts of reactive faces to his droll comments.

That being said - Evan Lysacek on the premiere of DWTS:
