I was going to assemble a list of ridiculous (and in some cases somewhat racist) conspiracy theories being peddled seriously by internet idiots and right-wing pundits. Salon.com did it for me.
Biggest Myths From the Boston Marathon BombingThe highlights:
•
"Truther" Alex Jones says
it was an inside job. Of course.
• Glenn Beck can't believe that a couple of white European guys acted alone, and is certain a
Saudi mastermind is being hidden by the government. Because, hey, foreign brown guy.
• Two immigrant runners who attended the marathon
were falsely accused by the New York Post. This false accusation was perpetuated by Facebook and Reddit. Because brown people.
• Sunil Tripathi, a Brown University student, was the subject of an internet rumor because he disappeared before the bombings, despite *actually* being
the victim of violent crime. Again, it's GOTTA be a brown guy. (This time, in more ways than one.)
