I had my brakes done at the Schwab. They left a placard hanging from the mirror, which had this to say:
A Word About Your New Brakes
Break-In Period
When New Brakes are installed, there is a break-in period designed to allow all of the new parts to properly seat and function smoothly. For this reason, you should try to avoid excessively hard stops during the first 1000 miles of use.
Brake Squeal
All brakes are susceptible to slight occasional brake squeal or noise, especially during the break-in period. Weather conditions, such as very humid or very dry days can also influence brake squeal. Normall, no correction is necessary and the noise should disappear. Should you have any questions, please contact us immediately.
And here I thought that "A Word About Your New Brakes" would consist of just one word.
Probably "friction".
