My Exit Interview

I wonder if I can get in trouble for this??

Did your undergraduate experience at UF allow you the flexibility to take the courses you wanted to take? (If no, please explain.)
Yes. I was able to Major in Digital Arts and Sciences with a minor in Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences and another minor in Japanese. It took a while. But it was worth it. Though I wouldn't say that anyone on the university end made it easy.

Where there any required courses that seemed unnecessary or irrelevant?
Operating Systems seems unnecessary for me. But that is because I am really an artist in an engineers clothing. I still think the class will be valuable as greater understanding of programming and computer processes facilitates communication between artists and programmers in the field.

Were there subject areas not covered by CISE courses that you believe should be in the future?
For the DAS degree, concrete, innovative, and inspiring 2D and 3D computer art classes are sorely lack-luster. The classes we do have are not taught appropriately.

Have you experienced any CISE course-related problems that you believe need to be improved? (If yes, please describe the nature of these problems.)
Professors. This Department is notorious for aloof and self-centered, apathetic professors. This University goes out of its way to hire "brilliant minds" to make UF look good on paper. But in practice, these "brilliant" people are merely shut-in savants who do not care to, and do not try to, teach. They have no interest in the education of their students. There are a few exceptions. Tuba Yavus and Dr. Denkel are among them. As for most of the others -- the simple truth is they do not want to teach. They have no inspirational ability. Some of them are so resentful at being forced to teach their one measly class, that they actively seek the suffering of their students. I am not just whining because I struggled to pass my classes. I did not. I did very well (in most cases). But I did it alone. Another major flaw in this department, and indeed, most of the sciences -- TAs. Most of the TAs are swiftly becoming clone's of their professors. They do not wish to bear the burden of our presence. 90% of them cannot speak english. And I do not mean that they have heavy accents. I mean they cannot form a coherent sentence to save their lives. For instance, Tuba Yavuz: Heavy accent, perfectly understandable speaker. As for others, I don't know how they passed their English language requirement. My guess is -- the standards are too low. Like most of the standards here at this department and UF abroad.
