Mexico 2013

Feb 26, 2014 20:20

I was supposed to go to Peru but that got cancelled right before we booked everything, it would have been an expensive trip. I still wanted to go out of town as did the other I was to travel with so after some discussion we decide to go to Mexico. Mark's sister lives on Cozumel and he wanted to see her and this is right across from Playa Del Carmen. This is the same area as I went last year but I did have fun and my sister tagged along as well.
Day one travel- Fly to Huston then to Cozumel then a ferry ride over to Playa Del Carmen. The place we rented is a two story condo with three bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, separate den and a roof deck with a hot tube, very nice place. Aj and I are here for the first few days as Kymm and Mark are going to stay at his sisters. After changing into more appropriate clothing we head out to do some exploring. Last year we only passed through and did not get to see the town. We have an late lunch or early dinner depending on how you look at it and quickly fade. As this place is closer to the equator they get about 12 hours of sun light a year and the sunset and sun rise move about. This time of year the sun goes down around 6, so a bit after the sun went down I started to fade. I tried to watch a movie but I don't think I lasted past 8.
Day 2- Cozumel, As this is a vacation I slept in a bit and had a great nights sleep, so we missed the first two ferries. We meet up with everyone and head out on a boat to do some snorkeling. We hit the end of the rainy season so we had a storm hit us when we were going out but it passed. I was fun to be back in the water, I saw a rare species of sting ray called and eagle ray due to having a large beak. We have lunch on the boat and decide n to head over to PDC because another storm was coming on and it hit hard. When we got on the ferry they were handing out barf bags, it was a rocky ride and took a bit to dock as the water was very rough. Heading back to out place we got drenched, soaked completely through which is kinda funny seeing that we were in the water a few hours earlier. We stopped and a place on the way to have dinner. After a hot shower I was out for another 12 hour sleep.
Day 3- Mother island, We get picked up and head north past Cancun. While this company had high marks on trip advisor it seems they just drop you off on another company that owns the boats. So this was a bit of a bigger group than what I would have liked but the boat was very nice. It turned out this was a booze cruise, Aj booked this, the sailing was nice, the snorkeling sucked, the island was nice as was lunch. Only down side there was a major accident on the freeway they set us back by an hour of so. When we get back in, Kymm and Mark had shown up. NOt sure what we did for dinner.
Day 4- Sian Ka'an, We went with the company we did a few things last year, Riveria Aventours, they only do small groups and we had a lot of fun with them. Marks sister meet up with us right as they picked us up. We head south past Tulum, were we stayed last year. We stop at a Mayan ruin who name escapes me right now, I notice that there are a lot of butterflies among the ruins. The guide says the blue one mean luck. We do the rounds then head to Sian Ka'an. This is a very large nature preserve, massive wetland that have fresh water lakes that the Maya cut channels through. We cross a lake the go down one of these channels until we hit a ruin. At this pint we jump in the water and float down the channel for an hours, we put our life jackets on like shorts and you float like you are sitting down. The wet land are a vibrate green, looks like an African savannah and the islands looks like hills. We jump back into the boat and head to bird island to do some bird watching. After we head to the owner of the tour coma pies restaurant for dinner. A long but fun day.
Day 5 - Snorkling, after a horrid night of no sleep, the place next to us had a live band going until 2 or 3 in the morning, we head out to do the same snoring trip as last year. I am not a person who wants to repeat things but this was fun. We hit the beach as the sunrises and go swimming with turtles, witch might be closed down very soon, people cannot keep there hands off the turtles. Saw an eagle ray again. Next was the a centoe but a different one than last time and the cove again. As this was an early trip we have the rest of the day free, Kymm and Aj decide to go shopping, Mark and I stay at the condo and relax in the pool and talk about how nice are guides body was. At dinner I get a bit of an upset tummy that kinds plagues me the rest of the trip.
Day 6 Chen Itza- I went here last year but felt we didn't have enough time. We get there very early and get some extra time, the place is a lot bigger than I thought. The guides only take you through the main area and yo have to find the rest of the stuff yourself. We tour an old monastery next and then to a different centoe.
Day 7 fly home, I feel I am forgetting something, when I remember I will edit. Fun trip but will wait a few years before I go back.
