A gymleader's purpose is to see how good you've gotten! If their whole purpose was to lose, then they wouldn't even try, y'know?

It is my understanding they put up resistance precisely because it is their purpose to lose. As I relayed to Falkner, his effort was admirable, but he is no doubt accustomed to constant losses.

Any victories Falkner claims are largely due to the fact the challenger has not made a proper analysis regarding his line up.

Analysis suggests he has not trained at all. His Pokemon have not gained a single level since the first instance in which I observed a trainer battling against him.

At least if you can beat him, it's kinda like a test? I still don't think it's his purpose to lose,but it's like...if you're strong enough to beat him, then you're almost ready to take on the next guy.
