Choose wisely...

If you had to choose between doing the practical thing, staying put and going to school as planned and knowing it will pay off in the long run... Or taking a once-in-a-lifetime chance that may or may not be completely frivolous, but if it works, could land you everything you dreamed of... Which would you choose?

School's not going anywhere. I can resume in January. Taking the shot would not cut into any other money I have, but I can't afford to do both so I would have to miss out on this class. This class runs only once per year, in September, and I already told the prof I'd be taking it, but of course have not yet signed up. I could, and would definitely, go there and explain to him why I wasn't there, so I don't make a bad impression, but it's highly unfortunate that I'd have to wait a whole year to take it. This wouldn't jeopardize or delay me in any way in terms of getting my certificate.

The chance...is just that, a chance. A huge shot in the dark, that although it's not entirely outside the realm of possibility (nor is it completely unfounded that it could pay off), is reliant pretty much on luck and my big self-promoting mouth. There's 2 ways it could go: I could walk away with absolutely nada. Or I could land my dream job. I have virtually no control over which way it goes, but one thing's for certain: if I don't try, it won't happen.

I have to think this through very, very seriously...thankfully I have a bit of time to decide. I want to talk to S. about it, and I also need to talk to my boss about it because it would definitely affect my work schedule. I know this is vague, but yah...what it really is isn't relevant, and I don't want to jinx it, lol...it just boils down to the choice. Practical and tried & true? Idealistic, dreaming, betting on the kind of success story you only hear about on TV or in the movies? There's really no harm done either way, but I don't want to come home empty handed and feel like a fool. I doubt I'd feel like a fool, but I'm afraid of looking like one lol. My optimistic side (which has been winning most battles with myself lately, I gotta say, lol) says DO IT, but my pessimistic side is like "WTF don't!" LOL. I've learned, often the hard way, that when opportunities present themselves, the best thing to do is to just take them and ask questions later.

Not sure what to do here. I know I'm lucky, but am I THAT lucky?? :) (One thing I know I am is tired...will answer the questions put to me in my previous post tomorrow!)
