Couldn't have been better timing for Bush.

Lovely, isn't it? (Especially if you support the war.)

So we finally bagged ourselves a Big Bad Terrorist and ensured (for the time being) that al Qaeda in Iraq will be thrown into a state of temporary chaos. Said chaos can take one of two forms:
    1) Total disorganisation and a lull in the hostage-taking and insurgent attacks, or
    2) a fresh wave of intensified violence in the form of revenge strikes.

To the war supporters, it's a sign that the war's going well.
To the anti-war people, it's a sign that we'll be able to get out of there sooner than expected.

All things considered, it's too early to tell what the effects of this 'victory' will be. Personally, I'll be happier if they manage to get bin Laden - chances of which are pretty low, since most of the military (and public)'s attention has been focused on the fracas in Iraq, or as Jon Stewart has put it so succinctly, 'the Mess o' Potamia'.

To think that this time yesterday, most people were riled up over gay marriage. Well, we'll have to deal with that eventually - knowing the fickleness of American opinion, this is but a momentary distraction. Much like the people of Airstrip One. That is disturbing.

But we can indulge in patriotism once in a while, right?
