Welcome to week one of my new Build-a-City Challenge! I blame
simsforaranya, because her BaCC is so awesome. lol. I got most of my rules from her at
crystal_ridge, as well as over at
this place over here. I also checked
this site out, though I haven't read this one all the way through.
So this is the first part. I decided to roll a random number between 1 and 4 to see how many families I'd start out with, and I came up with two. And, since I completely sucked at taking pictures at first, this first update is going to encompass both families.
First up, the Ontarios! Some of you might remember the first two generations of Ontarios from the regular legacy I started awhile back. After a few issues with different hoods, I've finally put the gen 3 heir here in Maplecliffe. Hopefully this will be the last move for the Ontario family. So, everyone, say hi to Arva! She's fresh out of college and ready to make a new life in a new place. Of course, her schooling won't have any meaning here, since there are no jobs or anything to speak of. She'll just have to make her own way in the world. She starts out with $24,000, but I forgot to take a picture of her house. Oh, and I also decided to roll every family every week for the possibility of doing
mini challenges, but this week, Arva didn't have to do one.
Oh yeah, and her stats: Arva is a Family/Fortune sim who wants to marry off six kids. *cries* Well, I guess this town is going to grow REALLY quickly. She likes dudes with brown hair and who aren't afraid to wear a little makeup. No nerds though.
And this is her trusty, rainbow-eared dog, of course. Meet Port Dover!
She's adorable, but oh, such a bitch. Two minutes into arriving at their new house, and she's already eaten Arva's expensive bed, forcing her to buy a cheap one, since she no longer has enough money for a good one. Stupid dog.
So, since Arva can't get a job, and those groceries in the fridge won't last forever, she starts to plant a garden. It takes up most of her days. And this would be why there are hardly any pictures in week one--because she pretty much did nothing but garden. My goal is for her to get her gold gardening badge so that she can open a grocery store. That way, not EVERYONE has to garden to get food.
And she's well on her way! After the first day, she gets her bronze badge.
And after that, she's too tired and hungry to cook a meal for herself, so she gets the instant meal. I wouldn't trust her with a stove anyway. The last thing we need is for the very first resident to DIAF, on her very first day.
Aaaaaaaand this is what happens when she cooks! No fire yet, though, thank God. Give it time. I'm sure she'll cause one eventually. She's kind of a hot mess.
Port Dover is not a pig pen, but she is constantly filthy and digging holes and stuff. I've never had to deal with a dog that's needed so many baths. Arva does not have time to give you baths every day!
Arva scolds her for being filthy, but she's a good owner. She gives Port Dover love afterwards...right in the pee. Yeah, PD has a tendency to pee on the sidewalk. An entire yard to pee in, yet she always pees on the sidewalk. Still, I suppose it's better than peeing in the house.
..........I'd rather she pee in the house than this. This is at least the second time she's tried to destroy the second bed. And both times, Arva had to wake up to scold her, so that she wouldn't completely ruin the second bed. She can't afford another bed! She could barely even afford this one?
Fucking dog.
Serves you right. I do not feel sorry for you.
Arva's not doing much better. She needs money, but the only thing she seems able to dig up are water pipes. And then it takes her forever to fill them back in. This one here took probably about ten 'fill in's. Apparently it's because she has no body skill, so she doesn't have the strength to fill them in. At least that's what I was told when I googled it.
See? Still spraying. Also, apparently Port Dover reeks so much, they can smell her from across the yard. Now that's impressive. Stupid dog.
Onto happier times. Hello hot mail lady!
And hello even hotter paper girl! You two will make great additions to the families in Maplecliffe.
So cute. XD
Aaaaaaaaand then she turned into a plant sim. This is what happens when you spend all day tending your garden but can't afford the ladybug houses and thus have to spray everything. She's my first plant sim, and I effing hate it already. But, because phone options aren't available until the population reaches 500, there's no cure for her. D8
At least I can give her normal skin. That's something, I guess. I love that she doesn't need to sleep, but nights are rough without the sun, and I can't find the damn heat lamp. I've been looking. And, even when all three bars are full, at night she gets into terrible moods that seems to have no cure at all.
She is adorable when she gives off spores of happiness though. Now she just needs someone to live with, so that they can benefit from them.
And, by the time her first week is up, Arva's earned her gold gardening badge! Yay!
And, so after that very disappointing first week with Arva, we move onto our second household in Maplecliffe!
Meet Max Storybook. He's a Romance/Knowledge sim who wants to be a celebrity chef. Unfortunately, since there are no restaurants in the area, so he's just going to have to be master chef of the household. :( He likes logical girls who like to pretty themselves up. No bearded ladies.
Also, he's really hot. XD
Oh, and the thing with his name: I've decided that the naming scheme for the Storybook's is that each generation will have names based on different characters from books. Max's namesake is Max, from Where the Wild Things Are.
He gets a pre-made starter house, which I already hate because there are no flat surfaces outside, but he can't afford to flatten the land. He only got $16,000 to start with. He'll just have to deal with lumpy ground for now.
Arva is Max's first visitor! But apparently they can't speak to each other because the ground is uneven. >:( Stupid pre-made lot. They hit it off when they finally are able to talk though!
And Max rolled yes to a mini-challenge, and this is the one he got. Easy enough for a first challenge.
I love him so much. Max is so adorable.
One of Max's wants is to woohoo, and who should he meet, but
lauriethemuppet's Thea Ouroboros. Immediately, they hit it off and spend most of the night getting to know each other.
This is a good sign!
He also hits it off with the hot mail lady. Also a good sign!
Yay, treasure chest! Now Max can buy his store!
Here it is! It's just tiny for now, and he just sells miscellaneous sculpture decorations for now, until he's skilled enough to sell something else.
Max's first customer! Yay!
Max has no employees because he can't afford any, so as soon as the first person goes to cash, he shuts the place down so that he can ring everyone up.
Once the customers are gone, Max restocks the almost empty shelves.
Max decides to try to make friends with Alabama, but Alabama doesn't seem to want to get to know Max.
Aww, poor Max. He tries so hard.
Effing dog. All Max wanted was to be your friend. :(
Max has a bronze badge in fishing, yet apparently he still isn't able to stay on his feet.
But finally, after several hours, he finally catches a fish! This is going to be a long, long process. Thankfully, once Arva gets enough money together, she'll be able to open a grocery store, so he won't have to fish to be able to eat.
Max:You want ME to flirt with her? *whines*
Dude, you're a romance sim, and you've been gushing over her since you first met her. Just flirt with her already!
See, that wasn't so hard, was it? Thea clearly loves the gesture. And with that, Max is that much closer to getting his big want.
After that, it's pretty much smooth sailing from there. Nothing but kissing and flirting and dancing. I love dates, mostly because as long as they like each other at all, it's a great way to get aspiration and mood up.
Um, Max, you do realize that if you DO fertilize her eggs, you're going to have to marry her so that the kid(s) will have your last name, right? Just saying.
He didn't care.
Look at you, struttin' that ass after the date's over. Yeah, you know you got it.
She knows you've got it too.
She likes what she sees. Now if only he would get rid of his fear of a relationship.
I don't know who keeps kicking the can over, but she even autonomously cleans up his garbage for him. If that isn't a sign of true love, I don't know what is.
Meanwhile, Max meets Dany, one of the neighbourhood strays. She has cool eyes, so immediately, he starts trying to make friends.
Finally, once the week is almost up, the repo man comes for compensation for the unpaid bills. Well, at least he isn't taking body parts. I wonder if there's a genetic opera repoman default replacement. I've got to look. That would be awesome.
The repoman takes a little vase sculpture thing, an outdoor light, Max's mirror, and this fish thing. Could be worse. At least he mostly took stuff that doesn't matter.
Ooh, sparkly fish. It's pretty much the only thing left in his fridge, so he's going to have to fish more pretty soon, else he'll go hungry.
And we'll finish off the week with Thea visiting Max at the store for a little pick-me-up. Yeah, they're soulmates, even though he denies it with every fibre of his being.
And that's it for the first week! Hope you liked! We'll end with some stats, the format for which I stole from
