I haven't posted in such a long time. I've been so busy with my parents being down here. They came right after Thanksgiving. They go back to Pa. April 22nd, I think. Anyway, Jan. 18th, my cat almost died. It was the 6 yr. old Mokey. He's my litle love bug. He was breathing really heavingly. I knew he was also lackluster the day before. I rushed him to the Vet. They took x-rays and said he had heart problems. Most likely heart worms or heart disease. His lips, nose and gums were purple and he was panting by the time I got him to the Vet. It was so awful! The Vet put him on oxygen to stabilize him the best they could. Then, there was a surgeon there that told me to go home and wait until they called me. I asked him if Mokey was going to die? He said,"Most likely." I looked at him, because he was highly annoyed that I had interupted an operation he was performing on a dog. He even said,"You know, I am operating on a dog right now!" Well, G-d, sorry my cat is dying! I wanted to say that, but I held my tongue. The bastard. I went to my car and let out the biggest wail! I cried and screamed. I drove home needing windshield wipers on my glasses. My husband couldn't even understand me on the cellphone.
About an hour later the Vet called and told me to pick Mokey up and take him to another town where there was a clinic of Vet specialists. I went and got him. It was terrible, like the clock was ticking every gasp he made. It was a 25 min. ride with lots of road construction, in the middle of the day.
I took him in and triage came out and got him right away. They did an ultrasound. They told me his heart was enlarged, and that he had fluid in his lungs and around his heart. They said it was congenital heart disease. He stayed for 2 nights in oxygen, and gave him Lasics to get rid of the fluid. He would not eat though.
To make a long story short, I had to run him back there 4 days after he got out. They kept him 2 more nights. Then, another week later, another 2 nights. We finally got his meds right and he is getting better every day. He doesn't even need the appetite stimulant pill! I am so lucky to have him. Mokey and I hate the 2 Lasic pills a day, but that's what we have to do. The Vet, Dr. Oswald is awesome! He called to see how we were, etc. I wish MY Dr. was as wonderful!
Eventually, Mokey's heart muscle will not be able to expand at all, and he will die. I guess because I caught it fast, plus he's only going to be 7 yrs. old, he was able to hang in there. Thank G-d I didn't have work that day, or he would have died. It has taken almost 2 months to get him back to his old self. Of course it cost me $2,000.00, but he is very special to me. He loves me more than any cat I've ever had, and vice-versa. I've had one cat or another my whole life.
On a lighter note. I went to L.A. for 4 nights to visit Courtney and Angela. My best friend Marcy came with me because her son lives out there in La La Land. We had the best time ever!!!!!!!!!! That'll be my last trip for a long time. No one else will be able to medicate my cat for me. I don't like to board him. It would take a special emergency for me to do that. He's not "in a cage" kinda kitty.
