Favorite:
Erg, that’s a hard one. Pretty much my feelings are split after I post a fic - either I suddenly hate it or suddenly get very attached/protective of it. I’ll tentatively say
I All Alone, my Al-at-the-Gate fic, because it was one of those ideas that hits you and makes you write it, but also makes you think - in this case, about what it would be like to regain senses of which you (/Al) had been deprived for so long, and I ended up liking what I did with it.
Best:
Gilded, which is easily the most popular thing I’ve ever written (though this is somewhat skewed as it’s also the fic with the most chapters) or
Cast Offs, which is one of those few fics where I was able to write down exactly what I meant.
Most underappreciated by the universe:
The Tale of Three Meis, easily - probably because it’s super-long and about a less popular character with lots of OCs. *g*
Most fun to write:
A Visit to the Host Club. Practically wrote itself, which was nice as it’s the only time I’ve written for Ouran, and still makes me laugh.
Sexiest:
Haha, I don’t write romance very well. I guess
Bedtime Stories? Or
Sweet Talk? Both are Ed/Winry, which is telling.
“Holy crap, that’s wrong even for you?”:
Uh.
After School Enrichment? It’s not really ‘wrong’ in the Ron Stoppable, ‘wrong-sick’ definition, but it is mediocre and kind of blah.
Fic that shifted my own perception of the characters:
Oh, too many. Cast Offs again.
Opportunity, which made me realize I knew exactly how my headcanon of the Hawkeye family went down, even though I’d never anything for it before.
Squabble, the first time I got to write most of the homunculi (+ Father).
Hardest to do:
The Tale of Three Meis again, probably. I had to do so much research, as ancient China is not something I’ve ever studied before, and make up a bunch of my own ideas on alkahestry and Mei’s background, and the fic just wouldn’t stop. Literally worked on it for weeks. Or
To Market, To Market. It was another fic I wrote specifically for someone (in this case, for a donation at
helpthesouth), and I always try to make those extra special (because somebody’s paying for it), and though I loved the prompt (Link as viewed by a random NPC villager), it was challenging. I liked the way it came out, though.
Biggest disappointment:
I need to get back on the ff100/Godchild wagon. I’ve been so terrible about it. Also, I wrote a fic for
helpthesouth, but I haven’t posted it yet because the winner (
seatbeltdrivein) seems to have disappeared, and this makes me sad as I took forever to write it so she never got to read it after donating for it.
Biggest surprise:
All in a Day’s, which literally came to me while in bed (I had to turn on my light and scrabble for a notebook before the plotbunny ran away from me) and then won at
fma_fic_contest.
Most telling:
Gilded, my totally self-indulgent post-canon Trio fic, which is full of fluff (as am I).
Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you'd predicted?:
Much more, definitely! Due to
fma_fic_contest, the posting of Gilded, and my weird decision to write for every single April prompt at
31_days, my productivity skyrocketed in comparison to previous years.
What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January?:
I didn’t write any new fandoms, nor really any new pairings! (I’m so vanilla.) Um… I wrote several fics on Pride, who scares the crap out of me, so if that counts…
The Fly in the Web,
Truly a Shame, and Squabble again.
Did you take any writing risks this year? (See above for unexpected pairings, etc.):
Honestly? Every time I post a fic I feel like I’m taking a risk. Maybe
Babybender, as it’d been a while since I wrote Avatar. Or see previous answer about
31_days (which reminds I still need to post those on ffdotnet).
Do you have any fanfic or profic goals for the New Year?:
Be better about
ff100! Be a better reviewer! Post more on
fma_fic_contest (as I’ve been a bit neglectful of it lately)! And it would be cool if this long, post-canon FMA fic would actually end up going somewhere, instead of popping into my head with a beginning and sketchy ending and absolutely no middle except for a long conversation between Roy and Ed and Winry’s eldest.
I... don’t know what ‘profic’ means. :\
