31_days - "memories always remember you".
In a lifetime that never happened, Zelda sent a young stranger boy into a thousand battles to save her kingdom. The only fight she had not forced on him had been the one to save her - and into that one he had rushed willingly.
She did not know how to repay him, could not bring herself to apologize as she ought, so she made it as if it had never been.
But she could still picture the boy’s eyes, so innocent and trusting that first day in her garden; the man’s eyes were much more weary, but no less trusting in those last few moments before she rewrote time itself.
When the boy, against all reason, came back to see her, drawn by something neither of them could name, Zelda realized that her memories had done him no justice.
She found weariness and innocence both swirling in Link’s eyes… but an emotion deeper than trust and warmer than friendship overwhelmed them.
It was destiny. And this time, Zelda smiled, because she knew exactly what to say.
“Thank you, Link.”
