Bookcases!

gbcrush & I finally ordered bookcases yesterday!  They are locally made from REAL, SOLID, WOOD by Durham Bookcases.  Finally, I will have bookcases to hold up my considerable collection of books!  Since these bookcases are made from solid wood and NOT from sawdust and glue, hopefully they will not sag under the weight of all my books!

If you are curious about the details, here's what we ordered....we ordered three 30'' w X 84'' h bookcases to fit into the niche at the top of our stairs.  Even before we moved in I've been wanting to put shelves there.  Right now at the top of the stairs is a blank wall.  The space is about 95'' wide and is eight feet tall.  It's also rather deep, so it should be perfect for the bookcases.  Oh, I forgot to mention that the ones we ordered will be made out of birch wood and will be stained (and sealed) a light honey color.  There was a slight cost increase to get them stained & sealed instead of naked wood, but probably worth it, in my opinion.  They already have all the tools, materials, space, and time to properly stain & seal wood.  I don't.  I would probably cost me more to get all of the tools & materials and then find the time & space than it will to just have them stained in the first place.

The other "upgrade" we chose was to have an extra front lip added to the shelves.  They look more finished and have more stability and strength that way.

So, thanks Mom & Dad for helping us out with these great bookcases.  I'll try and post a photo when they come in (about 4 weeks).
